Management Meets Meaning

For Paige Snyder, studying management at the E. J. Ourso College of Business has been about more than coursework and career preparation—it’s also about discovering how to lead with heart.

“I am a people person at heart, so I have loved to be able to learn how people think, how people learn, how they act in groups, and, from a leadership standpoint, how to lead with grace and compassion. I really have learned so much. I'm so grateful to be a management major.”

A senior with her sights set on a career in healthcare administration, Paige has already spent three years interning with MedStar Health Ambulatory Services, where she has developed a strong foundation in patient experience and leadership. Her time in the field has affirmed for her that healthcare isn’t just a career path, it’s a calling.

“I knew I wanted to go into healthcare from a really young age. I honestly thought I was going to be a dentist. [But ultimately,] I wanted to do something in healthcare and really help people, but also be able to do the business and the hospitality side to see the full picture. What will drive me every day to go to work is being able to help those people walking a different path of life and learning their story, creating those relationships.”

That passion has shaped her vision for the future. After graduation, Paige is headed home to the DMV area, where she plans to work in a hospital setting, gaining hands-on experience before pursuing a master’s degree in healthcare administration. Her goal is clear: to be a leader who transforms patient care from the inside out.

Two challenges stand out to Paige as critical in the healthcare industry—worker wellness and patient experience. Paige aims to address worker burnout, ensuring that every nurse and associate feels cared for and appreciated. Just as importantly, she believes in creating an environment where every patient feels seen, has their needs met, and has the best possible experience, regardless of what they're going through.

At LSU, Paige has demonstrated her leadership potential through involvement in campus life. She serves as vice president of membership for Women in Business, where she helped lead the organization through a major rebranding effort. She also served as director of policy and prevention for her sorority, Pi Beta Phi, where she coordinated large-scale events and led risk management training for members.

“These positions have really prepared me for the future because managing people is what I want to do. When you have to manage people who come from all different places and expect different things, sometimes that can be a real challenge, but it is also real life.”

With her strong management foundation and passion for people, there’s no doubt that Paige will make a lasting impact in the healthcare field and beyond.

What's the best piece of advice you have received?

"Embrace it" — One of my favorite teachers in high school always used to say, "Just embrace it," I think this has become one of the best pieces of advice I have ever received because although it is vague, it can be applied to everything. I think, as a society, we desire to feel like we belong or have to fit a cookie-cutter mold of what everyone wants you to be. I have learned that it's okay to be different, and embracing who I am as a person has made me a better friend, a better leader, and just a happier version of myself. I think this also means embracing what comes at you, whether it is good or bad, embracing every opportunity you have lets you grow in so many ways and offers new experiences.
