Interested in becoming a PELICAN Mentor?
Peer mentor positions are available to past LSU Promise Scholar participants who successfully met all program requirements during their freshman year.
The primary role of a peer mentor is to build connections between incoming students and those who have already completed the LSU Promise Scholars Program. Peer mentors enrich the college experience by introducing students to the campus community and helping them stay accountable throughout their first year. They also assist students in connecting with campus resources and provide tools for success.
The name PELICAN was chosen not only for its significance in Louisiana but also as an acronym that reflects the mission of the mentorship program.
Peers: Building relatable relationships
Enriching: Enhancing the college experience through support and connection
Learning: Providing tools for success
Innovating: Embracing change and creating new approaches to learning
Connecting: Engaging with LSU communities
Acclimating: Assisting mentees in transitioning from high school to college
Navigating: Helping students find and use campus resources
